Product OverviewThe MAX3243EIPW is a RS-232 multichannel Line Driver/Receiver with ±15kV ESD(HBM and IEC61000-4-2, air-gap discharge) and ±8kV ESD (IEC61000-4-2, contactdischarge) protection on serial-port connection pins. The device meets therequirements of TIA/EIA-232-F and provides the electrical interface between anasynchronous communication controller and the serial-port connector. Thiscombination of drivers and receivers matches that needed for the typical serialport used in an IBM PC/AT or compatible. The charge pump and four small externalcapacitors allow operation from a single 3 to 5.5V supply. In addition, thedevice includes an always-active non-inverting output (ROUT2B), which allowsapplications using the ring indicator to transmit data while the device ispowered down. The device operates at data signalling rates up to 250kB and amaximum of 30V/µs driver output slew rate.
