Auchroisk distillery was built in Banffshire in 1974 to provide malt whisky for the famous blend, J&B. Single malt bottlings are rare. The story goes that the owners thought that customers would find it difficult to pronounce the name Auchroisk, so they issued their releases under the Singleton label.

This also represents a turning point in the Scotch Whisky industry, being one of the first (some reports claim ''The First") wood finished whisky to hit the market, having been beefed up in some sherry casks.
