As American B-17s and British Lancasters pummelled German cities and industrial centres to rubble, the Luftwaffe was forced to invent new and often dangerous expedients to combat them. Improvements in radar equipment and night fighting techniques were among the most important innovations, and a variety of aircraft types were adapted to utilise them, including the famous Ju 88, Do 17, Bf 110 and FW 190. This book is a unique pictorial record of these defensive measures, drawing exclusively on German wartime archive material taken on the spot by Luftwaffe war correspondents. It shows not only the aircraft but also their crews and much of the ground activity, including radar, searchlight and Flak installations.
