An EXCELLENT Example of an ORIGINAL, Colonial Natal Mounted Rifles (N.M.R) White Metal Helmet Plate as worn by serving members of the Regiment. The Natal Mounted Rifles was composed of several Colonial Volunteer Units formed in 1854 , taking various forms until formally appointed as a Regiment in 1868.
The Regiment, saw active service during the Zulu Wars (1879-1880) The Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) , 1906 Natal Rebellion - as well as the First and Second World Wars respectively. A Regimental Plate of this variety would have been worn with the White Service Pith Helmet by members of all Ranks.
