Commonly known as: Hoya 'Lisa'
If you love foliage that's anything but ordinary, Hoya Australis 'Lisa' brings it in spades. Each leaf is a soft splash of pastelranging from coral pinks and sunny creams to zesty lime and deep green margins. New growth often emerges with a rosy glow before settling into its signature variegation, making this plant feel like it's always in transition.
'Lisa' is a cultivar of the hardy Hoya australis, known for its easy care and tolerance of indoor conditions. Like other hoyas, it's a succulent-ish epiphyte, meaning it stores water in its thick leaves and doesn't like soggy roots. You can grow it trailing in a hanging pot or train it up a small trellis. And if you're patient, mature plants may surprise you with clusters of waxy, white, lightly scented flowers.
Perfect for bright indoor spaces, this plant is not fussyjust give it decent light and let it dry out between waterings. It's a slow grower but worth every bit of the wait.
Light:
Loves bright, indirect light. A spot near an east or west window is ideal. Some morning sun is welcome, but too much direct sun can fade the variegation or scorch the leaves.
💧 Water:
Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Water less in winter. Its thick leaves store moisture, so it's better to underwater than overdo it.
🌡 Humidity & Temperature:
Average home humidity is fine, but it'll thrive in slightly more humid environments. Aim for temps above 15°Ckeep it away from cold drafts.
🪴 Potting mix:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix. Try our premixed Aroid Mix or blend your own using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil, Perlite, and Bark Chips. Hoya roots love air.
🌱 Feeding:
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted organic fertiliser. Skip feeding in the cooler months.
🛡 Pests:
Hoyas are usually pest-resistant, but mealybugs and aphids can sometimes pop up. Wipe the leaves and treat with insecticidal spray if needed.
Repotting & pruning:
Repot every 23 years or when it becomes rootbound. Prune to shape or to remove any leggy growth. Avoid removing the flower spursblooms will return to the same spot.
