The Philodendron Prince of Gold is a rare, sought-after beauty with leaves that shift from a striking orange to a vivid, mottled yellow as they mature and unlike the Prince of Orange, these golden tones linger far longer before fading to green. It's an easy-going, statement plant perfect for bright indoor spaces.
Naturally plant sizes do vary.
Plants are in a 14cm pot.
Commonly known as: Philodendron Prince of Gold
The Philodendron Prince of Gold is a true tropical gem, adored for its dramatic colour display and easy-going nature.
New leaves emerge a rich, fiery orange and gradually transition to a bright, mottled yellow that holds for weeks before slowly turning green unlike the Prince of Orange, where new leaves skip straight to green soon after unfurling.
This rare hybrid adds a lively burst of colour to any collection, making it perfect for brightening your indoor spaces.
Light:
The Prince of Orange prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may cause leggy growth and faded colouring. A position near a window with filtered light is ideal.
💧 Water:
Water when the top 35cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering this is the quickest way to run into problems like root rot. In summer, you might water once a week, while in winter you can stretch it out a bit longer. Always empty any excess water from saucers.
🌱 Soil & Repotting:
For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or you can create your own potting mix using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil combined with Perlite. When repotting, it's a good idea to include a layer of Bark Chips for added aeration and to mimic the plant's natural environment.
🌡 Temperature:
Keep your plant in temperatures between 18°C and 28°C. It won't tolerate cold drafts or frost, so avoid placing it near open windows during winter.
🌸 Humidity:
While it enjoys higher humidity levels, this plant will cope with average indoor humidity. If your home is particularly dry in winter, an occasional misting or placing it near other plants can help.
🌿 Fertiliser:
During the growing season (spring to early autumn), feed once a month with a balanced organic fertiliser. In winter, feeding isn't necessary as the plant slows down. You can also use our Controlled Release Fertilizer which takes care of fertlizing for 6 months.
🐛 Pests:
Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract mealybugs or spider mites. Wipe leaves regularly to keep them clean and catch any early signs. If needed, treat with a gentle insecticidal spray.
